I've always loved learning about how other people celebrate birthdays. Here in the U.S. it's common to give the birthday child a "spanking," with one light whack for each year. In Serbia, however, people tug your earlobes one time for each year. I'm avoiding anyone who even looks at my ears today, because I'd have enough tugs coming that I worry my ears might come clean off my head. :0

Oh wow...really? it's your birthday but you get a spanking? That is an interesting way to celebrate. It must be a ritual to remind you that the first time you were "spanked" was right after birth, so that the doctors (or midwife) know that you are alive. I don't know if they still do that there but here in the Philippines yes, it is still being practiced.
