What Do You Think About Linky Love?

As I've been reading other blogs, I've noticed a growing trend toward listing the top Entrecard droppers to that blog for the past month. Some folks have turned that around a bit and list the top commenters on their blog. This is a nice way to give blog visitors a bit of recognition and link love, assuming that you include clickable links to their sites.

I've resisted doing this because reading those posts are not interesting, at least to me. So I've decided to put it to a vote. Check at the poll above and let me know what you want to see here: links for dropping Ecards, links for commenting, or nothing at all.

I voted for neither. Truly, the are boring.

I was just wondering about this last night. I didn't know the "EC etiquette" on this so it'll be interesting to see how your poll turns out.

I wonder about this myself--I've posted a post on my top EC droppers once (I've only been doing in 2 months--it's about time for another one if I'm going to do it) out of EC etiquette but I also tend to only skim the posts like this on other blogs I view just to see if i happen to be in their top ten. I think I'd be more interested in getting some kind of prize for being a top commenter (which involves more than being a top EC dropper, IMHO)...hmm...maybe this will be a theme for a giveaway next month...

I haven't done it yet either. It seems to be a growing trend but I'm not sure I will be doing it. I'm all for link love but only if it adds to my content.

Giving link love is a community thing to do, but there are other ways to do it besides just listing sites that have benefited you (ecard drops or comments). For awhile I did a once a week post of blogs I had discovered and liked providing my readers with a brief synopsis of the site and what drew me to it. That is more interesting than just a list of sites that were your top droppers or your advertisers for the week. That gives your readers some insight into what interests you beyond what you write on the blog itself.

Since you're all about luck, you could do a feature (the recurrence is up to you) of "Lucky Sites I like" or something like that.

It might be boring but it brings committed droppers to your blog. I have a list of 26 blogs who list their top 10 droppers each month. I appreciate when they give me linky love for dropping on their blogs.

Dare I suggest that you could use the private messaging service at Entrecard. That way you add a personal touch and lets face it if you enjoy the blog make a link to it on your site, other bloggers will often return the link. Thats what community is about for me. Not how many drops I get from people not interested in my blog. I too will be interested to see the views of our community. Great Idea.

Linky love can hurt your PR rating; Google will penalize you :(

It's nice to acknowledge those who drop but linky love is not the best way to do it.
