No Monkeys in the House

In the interest of making every day my lucky day, I've been doing some research into superstitions about luck. Some of them are truly funny--I'll save them for future posts--and some of them are truly interesting. One of them, however, has me totally confused. Apparently in Brunei it is widely considered to be bad luck to have monkeys in your house. What I can't find, though, is whether this applies to only live monkeys--which pretty much makes sense to me--or if it also applies to images of monkeys. Are stuffed toy monkeys okay? And what about sock monkeys? Monkey-patterned blankets? Do we need to completely redecorate? (Just kidding, I don't think we have a single monkey-related item here.) Is it safe to wear jewelry with images of monkeys? Apart from possible damage to your stuff, why is it bad luck to have monkeys in your house? Does this superstition carry over to other countries, or is it only in Brunei? I have so many questions that I can't answer, and I'm hoping that at least one of you can help clue me in.

My guess is that it applies to everything. My mom and grandma think birds are bad luck (yes, equally crazy) and they don't want anything bird-related in the house at all.

I do not actually know why that would be bad luck unless......I used to own a monkey. At the time, I was doing a lot of traveling so my ex and I had a school bus camper. Nice big place. The monkey lived on the coat rack. He liked it that way. The unfortunate part is that when he didn't like something, he threw poop on whoever did the rotten deed to him. If that ain't a problem, I don't know what is.

Of course, it's pretty funny now AND I was not the target of said punishment. LOL!!

On Entrecard, I found that you had placed an ad on my site. I decided to give your blog a quick look-over to see what I thought. Your niche is absolutely brilliant! I'm very thankful that you placed a bid to have an ad on my site because of the creativity and work you put both into the blog and your lucky jewelry. If you ever need anything reviewed, e-mail me at colt.mcgraw(at)gmail(dot)com. Thanks!

Wow this is very interesting. I have no clue either.

I did have an aunt who did have pet monkeys and they really did make a mess all over her house.

I will definitely keep up with this to see if you get the answer!!

Never heard that one!

I can tell you that right now it's bad luck to be a cat in our house, especially if you've just thrown up on my bedroom floor.

Very nice site! Found you through Entrecard.

I don't have any answers for you but my son loves monkeys so I guess my house would be off limits!

I hope it's not stuffed monkeys!! Otherwise I have a seven year old little boy who would not be impressed. And getting rid of his stuffed monkeys would surely bring ME bad luck. lol
