Fun with Bottles

I've been playing around with some old bottles in my kiln. This one makes me smile every time I see it! You can see a few air bubbles trapped inside, and these make the top surface a bit curvy so I'm not sure how useful this will be as a plate or tray. I like the cute snowman shape it has, so I'll do some more testing and see what I can come up with. And maybe buy some more yummy Pom Wonderful juice so I have more of these bottles to play with. What would you do with this flattened bottle?

I don't know why, but that's hilarious. Someday I'll have a kiln... far, far away from my house. I'm dangerous with hot stuff. :-)

that looks cool. could you cut out the bottom of the bottle? would it lay flat then?

I tried this with small 7-up bottles and it is so cool! I have a small kiln, so I can't do any wine bottles or larger bottles. You could use it as a cheese tray or a tray to put loose change in? I'm not sure how big this bottle is that you used. I really love the shape of it!
Cheers,
Deb:)

I've seen these turned into clocks before (have to add a batter pack and the "face") or one of those spoon-holder things by your stove (not sure if those have a name!)

A tag you used was cabochon. If the size were small enough, I would use it as a cab and beadweave it into a necklace pendant!

I bought a few of these at a flea market in Florida. They came with raffia tied around the neck of the bottle. The raffia held pretty little cheese spreaders. I gave them as gifts and the recipients really loved them. The bottles that had been used were 26ers and they were flat. I think that the bottom had been cut off before they were heated.

i'd hang it in a window.

I wonder if you could put some shattered pieces of colored glass inside the bottle BEFORE you fire it to create a stained glass effect?

It looks so cool! I bought a wine bottle flatten like this a few years ago in Florida. I don't really use it, but have it sitting on my bar for decoration.
