The Coolest Dragon Ever

Our 9-year-old collects dragon figurines, and we searched and searched for something suitable to give him for his birthday to add to his collection. The dragons we found were either far too expensive or too juvenile for him--but then I discovered LizArt. The most amazing collection of figurines, pins, and magnets I've ever seen, but there was not a single dragon in the shop. A few messages back and forth, and Daniel now owns what he calls "the coolest looking dragon" he's ever seen. This custom-made figurine has also made me the coolest stepmom he's ever had (no matter that I'm the only stepmom he's ever had).

Check out all the amazing creatures at LizArt now!

Bold, Bright, and Beautiful

The paintings at Contemporary Original Art by Pamela E. Miller are bold, bright, and beautiful. My favorites are her originals with lots of texture, but there are many lovely watercolor works and less-textured acrylic paintings in her shop. Make sure you check out her ACEOs while you're there, and ask about her buy 3, get 1 free special!

CryZtalvisions, with a "Z"

Beth Alexander of CryZtalvisions says:
I've been creating unique pieces of jewelry for almost 20 years now, and I'm still excited by the process. I have an insatiable appetite for learning new techniques that push the boundaries of my creativity. Along the way I have also been drawn to studying and practicing various energy healing arts, like Reiki, chakra balancing, Earth based energy medicine, shamanic practices, and Angel Therapy. I have found combining my love of minerals, my artistic eye and skill in jewelry fabrication and design, along with my heightened sensitivity to energies creates a powerful synergy. I love to immerse myself in the creative process and I'm fascinated when some pieces seem to magically design themselves. I am pleased to share my passion with you here.

I delight in creating these pieces! Each one is unique, with its own energy that I feel as I work with the materials. They transport me to a place of deep knowing, relaxation and happiness as I work. My pieces not only look wonderful when worn, but also carry with them the special healing energies of each gemstone or crystal. My work is a constant exploration of the interconnectedness of all life.
And I am delighted that I discovered her shop!

Hope for Whirled Peas

I'm trying not to miss posting too many days, but with our upcoming move and closing the extra eBay store in addition to normal daily life stuff I'm pretty frazzled. Finding That's Headley! Jewelry Designs was enough to make me slow down and enjoy a minute of calm and peace, or I guess I should say peas. Although this artisan has a lovely and somewhat varied collection of jewelry, it was the Whirled Peas that caught my attention. Not only are these pieces lovely to wear and very affordable, a donation to an organization that supports families of injured military personnel, the Fisher House Foundation, is made for each purchase, and these pieces ship at no extra cost. It doesn't get much better than that!

And the Winner is . . .

Robin of My Melange! Check out her blog for a fabulous spaghetti carbonara recipe and mini-lessons in Italian. I packed Robin's dichroic pendant today and will take it to the post office tomorrow. I hope you all had a wonderful time at the Ultimate Blog Party 2008! I blog-hopped until my eyes went bleary, and I'm looking forward to doing it again next year. I'm already starting to plan what prize to offer!

I'm a Powerseller Now! (But I'm still closing my store)

A few days ago I got a "Congratulations New eBay Powerseller" message from eBay for the store we use to clear out or excess personal belongings. I reached this in just over a month, and I am sooo exhausted! I've been listing and cutting prices and shipping packages like crazy so that we can get this stuff cleared out before we move. I still have a pretty fair amount of stuff to list in the next few days--probably over 100 items but I'm afraid to count them--and anything that hasn't sold by March 28 or so is going to the local thrift store and that eBay store will cease to exist.

I'm not sure whether I'm more excited about moving into our new house and having my own studio space or living without all this clutter. Okay, never mind, my own studio space wins (yippee!).

If you're looking for a bargain, we have hundreds of books, CDs, PC games, war games, baseball cards, and miscellaneous stuff that need new homes. Come visit our giant online yard sale, I'd love for these things to go to people who really want them.

Yaslani

I love finding good luck symbols when I'm not specifically looking for them, and the Moonlight piece below with its lucky trunk-up elephant is my favorite find today. There are a lot of good luck symbols scattered throughout Yaslani, so browse a bit and you're sure to find something. I've included photos of only a few mixed media pieces here, but Yaslani also makes an amazing variety of bamboo pendants at very affordable prices.

An Accidental Penguin

I've been playing with abstract designs, layering a few strips and odd-shaped bits of glass in interesting patterns, and mostly with dichroics. That makes for expensive experimenting, but gosh, it can be amazingly pretty!

To my surprise (and total joy!) one of my experiments came out of the kiln looking much like a penguin! It's got a lot of clear and translucent areas, so gluing a bail is out of the question. I can't bring myself to drill a hole in the little guy, and I'm hesitant to wrap it in wire. He'll probably end up in my Etsy shop within a day or so as an abstract cabachon, and some kind-hearted and creative jewelry maker will adopt him.

From Astrophysics to Jewelry

The beaded pieces at Silver Dragon Creations are simply stunning. Owner-artist Patricia C. Vener's life is as intriguing as her beadwork:
My path as an artist, however, was a duet of both fine and performing arts. I am a (retired) ballerina as well as a published artist, having done illustrations for a CD picture book, Papa Cardinal Finds Breakfast, by Sandra Wellborn. One of my paintings accompanied an essay I wrote for an astronomy textbook. I also hold a Masters Degree in Astrophysics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, and have worked as an astronomer and still teach astronomy as an adjunct professor for University of Maryland University College.
Take a look at two of my favorites, but don't stop there--this shop is worth a look!
